Nurturing Talent

Artichoke is committed to sustainability – not just in the way we operate and the materials we use, but the longevity of our furniture and in training and developing skills. Cabinet-making at the highest level is a prized but rare art. That’s why since 2019 we have invested our time, energy and money into building our own school of furniture making. Based in our workshops in Somerset, we welcome applications from all ages and backgrounds – united only by a desire to produce the highest standards of workmanship.

Our founder Bruce Hodgson sits on the advisory board of the Building Crafts College – a specialist stone masonry, construction and carpentry college situated in London with a long tradition of delivering high quality education training in building crafts and building conservation.

Bruce’s links with this highly regarded college provide a natural follow on from the Artichoke School of Furniture.

The course

Graduates of the School of Furniture will have spent 6 weeks learning the basic skills of cabinet-making. Taught by our own master craftsmen and women, this hands-on course is designed to give you insights into the skill and dedication needed to design and make the very best furniture.
