A kitchen for every occasion

The first of a series of rooms commissioned for this project, the Artichoke kitchen in this house covers both domestic and professional cooking requirements in one space. As such, we needed to consider the changing nature and uses of the space and design the space and furniture accourdingly.

Arranging space for a multitude of audiences

We completed a full audit of the domestic requirements of the household to get a real feel for the space. The house had to cater for private family life as effortlessly as life with parties of guests. It had to accommodate professional cooks preparing for entertaining as well as a comfortable weekend space for the family.

The main kitchen was sited in a newly built orangery, leaving limited wall space for storage. Keen to avoid having one big island that interfered with the traffic flow, our solution was to create three islands. Each has its own purpose, laid out to channel people through the room but allowing space for several cooks to work simultaneously.

The Artichoke effect

By creating a calm, timeless, classic English kitchen design sensitive to the style of the house and the needs of the household – we achieved a scheme that is as functional as it is beautiful. The  two-tone paintwork emphasises the depth and relief in the panelling and contributes to the elegant ambience. High tech equipment is integrated subtly into stunning furniture.

The details and junctions between marble, brass, wood and glass carefully planned to create an exceptional room for living and working in.
